Growing Potatoes in Buckets

Container Gardening For Food

Growing Potatoes in a Bucket?

Well yes that’s a thing. I like to do this so that I can easily plant multiple buckets in succession and harvest new potatoes for the dinner table.

Believe me, there is nothing more satisfying than these tender tasty tiny taters!

Seed Potatoes

If you’re looking for seed potatoes - avoid using supermarket potatoes. They are sprayed so that they don’t sprout. You want sprouters!

Often seed and feed stores where the people who own livestock go to get their supplies - you’ll often find several variaties of potatoes that are known to grow with good success in your growing zone.

Determinate and Indeterminate Varieties

Yes. There are such things. The determinate varieties grow tubers horizontally which is useful if you are container growing these. You can clock your seed potatoes and grow a whole container full.
